About the house:
Moignes Court is a moated Manor House, and is the oldest inhabited house in Dorset (built in 1267). The interesting Church-like windows of the Manorial Court Room, are of interest to students of Architecture. The house was owned, in the 18th Century, by the Archbishop of Canterbury (William Wake), and Sir Theodore Janssen, MP, a Director of the Bank of England and the South Sea Company.

Our family, who have lived at Moignes Court for seven generations, have personally known Thomas Hardy, and the local Thomas Hardy Players stage an annual performance in the grounds of the house. In the fields surrounding the house are the earthworks of the original village settlement, disused in the 11th Century.
